Miami Township currently has 3895 signs
in service. The Township's signs and placement of signs are designed
according to the Ohio Manual of Uniformed Traffic Control Devices.
Since 1993, installation and maintenance of the Township's signs has been
recorded in a database. The database is a critical management tool, as
it allows the Township to determine when a sign is nearing its life
expectancy, how many times a sign has been replaced or repaired, and using
GPS (Global Positioning Satellites) the exact location of each sign in our
inventory. Most signs will last about 5-7 years depending on the
amount of direct sunlight.
The Service Director is always looking to
improve the visibility and durability of Township signs. Effective in
2002, replacement signs will utilize a new high intensity sign. The
reflective material on these new signs greatly improves the visibility for
nighttime driving.
